ISO Garden Bench

Looks like I will be in the market for a new garden bench. My current one is... well.. it has several large holes in it now.

Let me back up.

Softball is going well. Kiera has improved in just a couple of weeks of practice. Granted she is still a little timid when the ball comes at her, but overall she has picked up the sport very well.

Her coaches are great. They are patient, tough but also encourage the girls on the team to enjoy their time on the field and to have fun.

Kiera has stepped up to the practices with enthusiasm. She is tired afterwards but it is a good tired.

We have been working at home on accuracy and strength in her softball throws. Enter the need for a new garden bench.

I'll set the scene.

Sunday afternoon, we spent time outside in the back yard. Kiera grabbed her bag of softballs and started tossing them across the yard.

After the lawn mower and shed received direct hits, Aaron pulled my garden bench over.

"Try and hit here." He said, pointing to the back of the bench.

Now, granted, it is an older plastic bench... or WAS an older plastic bench.

I watched Kiera as she took a deep breath, scrunched up her face and stepped forward, releasing the ball.

"WHACK!" was the sound I heard as the ball slammed through the back of the bench, splintering the plastic and sending it shooting across the deck.

A smile spread across Kiera's face as Aaron and I stared at the cracked bench.

"Well..." Aaron said.

I smiled at both of them, making a mental note to pick out a new bench not made of plastic.

We gladly sacrificed the old bench to work on her confidence at throwing and improving on her accuracy. Currently, the bench is still being used for target practice and has a few more holes to show for it.

I'm excited to see what else this season brings us... as long as it doesn't involve replacing a broken window.

Rowonna McNeely her husband, Aaron are regular volunteers in the community, and have their hands full with their daughter, Kiera, along with three dogs and one cat.
